The Delaware Valley Chapter of AMC has over 5,000 members in Pennsylvania, Middle & Southern NJ, and Northern Delaware.
The Chapter is a part of the larger AMC community of over 90,000 members throughout the Northeast. AMC is headquartered in Boston, MA, with 12 Chapters from Maine to Washington DC devoted to outdoor recreation and conservation. The activities within AMC and within the chapters are described in the 10-issue-per-year members' magazine, AMC Outdoors, on the main AMC Website, http://www.outdoors.org and in the online trips database, http://trips.outdoors.org. The Delaware Valley Chapter newsletter, Footnotes, is distributed quarterly.
The Chapter offers day hiking, backpacking, canoeing, kayaking, bicycling, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, winter mountaineering, trail maintenance, conservation cleanups, educational workshops, meetings and programs throughout the year. Events are led by volunteers. If you're new to hiking and such outdoor activities, be sure to read our "getting started" pamphlet, How to Survive in the Wilds of the Delaware Valley: A Guide to Day Hiking With the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club.
In addition to the main body of the chapter, centered in Southeastern PA, there are two sub-groups within the chapter to better meet the needs of our geographically dispersed members. The Lehigh Valley Group hold meetings in the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton area; the Mid-Jersey Group holds meetings in central New Jersey. Both sub-groups schedule activities and events that are also part of the Delaware Valley schedule. See the social events page for more info.
The Chapter is governed by the Executive Committee which meets every other month in open sessions, usually the second Tuesday of the month at the Friends Meeting House in Plymouth Meeting, PA. Interested members are welcome to attend. Election of the officers happens annually in November, at the Chapter's Annual Dinner. More details of Chapter operations may be found in the following documents.
