I am not affiliated with any chapter, can I change this? Can I affiliate with more than one chapter at a time?
You can affiliate with just one chapter at a time (or no chapter) whichever you specify, however, you have access to the activities of all chapters through the the activities listing in the backcountry section of AMC Outdoors magazine. A chapter affiliation may provide you with several months, depending on the chapter, (ours is three months) of lead time on activity listings and include area news and updates. If you were not affiliated with a chapter automatically or if you requested not to be affiliated when you first joined, and you want to change that, you can make that change directly on the website link listed below.
Can I participate in the activities of other chapters or change my chapter Affiliation?
Yes, you can participate in the activities of any chapter even if not affiliated with that chapter. In addition, you can change your affiliation to one of the 12 chapters at any time. The chapters are: Maine; New Hampshire; Boston; Connecticut; Southeastern Massachusetts; Narragansett (RI); Worcester (MA); Berkshires (MA); Mohawk-Hudson (NY); New York-North Jersey; Delaware Valley; Washington, DC.
How can I update my address and chapter affiliation?
Address changes and chapter affiliations can be submitted on the AMC website, at https://www.outdoors.org/secure/membership-change-address-form.shtml
Email Hotline - a member service. Receive email updates about new unlisted activities.
To subscribe, re-subscribe, unsubscribe or update your email address, send an email to the hotline administrators at hotline-requests@amcdv.org. Include your name and address and membership ID from your magazine if available. Remember to list what you would like us to do for you with this service, example, subscribe, unsubscribe, re-subscribe, etc. We are sorry, the DV hotline is not currently available to AMC members affiliated with other chapters or to individuals who are not yet members.
What are hiker miles?
Hiker miles are miles hiked with the chapter in a calendar year. Anyone hiking at least 100 miles qualifies to earn recognition and awards at the annual hikers social and in Footnotes. Hiker miles are earned by signing in on the hike sign up sheets at each hike and completing the scheduled hike.
Footnotes or AMC Outdoors was not received.
Footnotes usually comes towards the end of the month previous to each quarter and AMC Outdoors arrives just before the end of each month except for double issues. (See publishing schedules below.)
Sometimes there is an error in your address or zip code listed with AMC or sometimes Footnotes simply never reaches its destination. Send us an email at member-services@amcdv.org with the problem and we will investigate or send you a replacement Footnotes and check your address listing with AMC data.
Schedule for Footnotes and AMC Outdoors
Footnotes is published quarterly, the issues cover the periods Dec-Feb, March-May, June-August, Sept-Nov
AMC Outdoors is published monthly except the Jan-Feb and July-August double issues.
Am I still a current member, when does my membership expire or when did it become effective?
Information and expiration date may be found on your AMC Outdoors address label along with your membership number. If you do not have these available and have a question, send us an email at member-services@amcdv.org.
I am a member of another chapter, can I get the Footnotes listings regularly by email?
We would be pleased to send you information on demand (email member-services@amcdv.org) but we are unable to schedule and maintain an email list for this purpose at this time. Remember that our activities are also in AMC Outdoors in the backcountry section, and online (see our activities calendar.)
I would like an email text version of our Footnotes schedule.
This schedule frequently comes out with the hotline, however, if we can help with a re-send. Contact member services by email at member-services@amcdv.org with your full name and address. This cannot be a regularly scheduled service at this time.
Leadership Training Opportunities
There are leadership training opportunities conducted by the chapter. Please send an email to member-services@amcdv.org for more information.
What is Membership in a Bottle?
The Membership in a Bottle program has been discontinued by AMC.
I just joined, can I get an update on the activities coming up. How soon will I begin receiving publications?
Please refer to our online calendar for the current list of activities. Or send us an email at justjoined@amcdv.org (include your postal address for Footnotes) and we will send you an email schedule. Printed publications may take a month or two to begin arriving depending on when during the month or quarter you joined. AMC Outdoors also has two double issues, Jan-Feb and July-Aug so there may be a bit of a delay there. We receive a list once a month of new members and will send you a packet of information about the chapter and Footnotes. Email us at to member-services@amcdv.org to speed that up.
Footnotes comes out quarterly (see schedule above) and is sent out towards the end of the month prior to scheduled quarter.
