Social Events Coordinator (SEC)

 

Description

Organizes and/or hosts social gatherings and walks in urban areas (e.g., walks on pavement in the front country).

Requirements

  • Current AMC Membership
  • Knowledge of posting policy
  • Knowledge of the OLDC Leadership Requirements and Guidelines
  • All social events need to be approved by the current Social Committee Chair*

This policy includes, but is not limited to: potluck meals, movies, theater shows, museums, wine tours, corn maze walking, happy hours, concerts, cooking, dancing, ice-skating, roller skating etc., provided the activity takes place in the front country, which is within an hour of transport to a hospital, for immediate emergency response available in the event of an emergency.

 

A social event coordinator is permitted to organize recreational team sports like volleyball, softball, flag football etc. permitting the activity takes place in the front country.

 

Social events coordinators are only authorized to organize same-day events that don't include an overnight stay.

 

The social events coordinator must be in compliance with the OLDC Leadership Requirements and Guidelines and cannot sponsor any of the below mentioned prohibited activities unless the leader is certified to lead those activities and that activity is additionally approved by that activity chair: Camping, backpacking, hiking, walking, trail running, bicycling, canoeing, kayaking, rafting, trail maintenance and construction, and ice climbing, mountaineering, rock climbing, leadership and/or outdoor skills training, and orienteering.

 

OLDC Leadership Requirements and Guidelines (excerpt)

 

Club units may sponsor the following activities:

Camping, backpacking, hiking, walking, trail running, bicycling, canoeing, kayaking, rafting, fishing, trail maintenance and construction, equipment maintenance, facility maintenance and construction, stewardship projects, conservation activities, ice climbing, mountaineering, rock climbing, leadership and/or outdoor skills training, orienteering, recreational team sports, social and educational activities, dancing, yoga or other organized exercise classes, cooking, in-line skating, ice skating, sailing (boats 26 feet and under only), snow skiing, snowshoeing, snowboarding, sledding, dog sledding, swimming, snorkeling, windsurfing

 

Club units may not sponsor the following activities:

SCUBA diving, sailing (boats over 26 feet), bungee jumping, flying of any kind including skydiving, hang gliding, parasailing, and parapenting.

 

 

 

*The Social Committee Chair will maintain an updated social leader list in order to approve the proposed social events.
