Appalachian Mountain Club - Delaware Valley Chapter

New Members' Information

On behalf of your fellow members of the Delaware Valley Chapter of AMC let me say “Welcome”. As a member of AMC you now belong to one of the oldest outdoor recreation, conservation and educational organizations in America. As a conservation organization we are trying to go “electronic” with much of our information. Instead of mailing you a copy of our chapter newsletter “Appalachian Footnotes” please contact our Membership Chair at membership@amcdv.org to receive the “new and improved” colorized electronic version.

Our chapter offers hundreds of outdoor activities such as day hiking, canoeing, biking, trail maintenance, backpacking and more for all skill levels all year long. We also host three social events a year, our Activities Social in March, Chapter Picnic in June and Annual Dinner in November. Throughout the year our volunteers lead workshops for various activities such as backpacking and cross country skiing just to name a couple. All of our activities are run by volunteers who are members just like you. We hope that as you participate in these activities you may consider becoming a leader as well.

Our chapter also hosts “getaways” and workshops at Mohican Outdoor Center located in the Delaware Water Gap Recreational Area. Mohican is just one of the many AMC facilities that AMC makes available to its members. As an AMC member you receive a reduced rate at all of these facilities which are located from Maine to New Jersey. You can check these out at the AMC website: www.outdoors.org.

To get the most out of your membership I encourage you to get out and participate in as many activities as your schedule will allow. You will meet many nice people who have a love of nature and the outdoors. You can find our scheduled activities by going to the Activity Calendar on this website or subscribing to our Hotline email. If you have any questions about a particular trip such as how hard it will be, how long it will last, what you need to bring with you or directions to the trip, please do not hesitate to contact the leader listed with the scheduled activity. You can also learn more from our Day Hiking Guide.

We have developed this New Member Section on our website to help you get the most out of your AMC experience. Not sure where or how to begin? First review the Activity List in Appalachian Footnotes or check out the Activity Calendar found on this website. Then look for a New Member activity. By starting with a new member activity we might be able to help you determine which level of activity is best suited for you. Our goal is to help you to enjoy yourself. If you have any questions about your membership or AMC in general, please email me at membership@amcdv.org

Hope to see you out there joining in the fun!

Joan Aichele
DV-AMC Membership Chair
