National Outdoor Leadership School - Course Details - WFA 18 Mar 2017 - Philadelphia, PA

www.nols.eduAbout the WFA. This two- or three-day introductory course covers a wide range of wilderness medicine topics for people who travel and work in the outdoors.

March 10-12 offered by SOLO at our own Camp Mohican. This year it conflicts with the chapter Activity Social.

Description: The Wilderness First Aid (WFA) course will teach you how to deal with common medical incidents and accidents that occur in the backcountry. It stresses safety, preparation, crisis avoidance, and the treatment of problems such as blisters, sprains, hypothermia, heat disorders, protection from the elements and more. This course does not go into the depth that the Wilderness First Responder (WFR) course does; however it does provide an important level of understanding about recognizing and treating medical emergencies or injuries. This course also discusses long-term patient care, a reality of backcountry travel. The WFA is a 16-hour course and can be used to re-certify a WFR level of training for an additional fee of $15 paid directly to SOLO. CPR certification can be obtained for $35.00 during the course. Please let the Outdoor Education Coordinator know if you desire this training prior to course start date.
