The Appalachian Mountain Club Lehigh Valley Group is a sub-group of the AMC Delaware Valley Chapter that runs activities to bring outdoor enthusiasts from northeastern Pennsylvania together.
The group generally holds meetings on the third Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. (except December, July, and August). Meetings are held in person at the AMC Mid-Atlantic Office at Illick’s Mill, 100 Illicks Mill Road, Bethlehem, PA 18017. They are also available via Zoom video conference for those unable to attend in person. The program to be presented at each month’s meeting and the link to connect via Zoom can be found on the AMC Outdoors Connector website. If you would like to receive notices about upcoming meetings and other events of interest to those in the Lehigh Valley area, contact Lennie Steinmetz to be added to the mailing list.
The meetings start with announcements about upcoming hikes, activities, conservation efforts, and trail work projects. This is followed by a program on topics such as adventure travel, geology, wildlife, nature photography, etc. Speakers have provided programs on a wide range of travel destinations including Patagonia, Alaska, Slovenia, Japan, Portugal, and Nepal, as well as on national and state parks, long-distance hiking trails, and local preserves. Meeting presentations are usually recorded on Zoom, and most are archived online.
A social hour with refreshments follows the presentation. Meeting attendance ranges from 30 to 40 people, including longtime AMC members as well as potential members who are interested in learning more about AMC and its activities. For information on the group and its upcoming meetings, contact Phill Hunsberger.
